A thanksgiving turkey (Medicare reform)

Congress has delivered our fresh turkey and it's called "medicare reform"! I could tell you about the likelihood of huge cost overruns, however Bill Winter has done this already. Maybe I could explain how the government caused this mess in the first place, however Alan Reynolds has done that pretty well. I will tell you that it is stuffed with high taxes, it will over-cook the budget and leave a mess for generations to come.

Profiles in courage?

The U.S. Senate gave President Bush permission to donate $87 billion of your dollars to Iraq.

In an anticlimactic voice vote for which only a handful of senators appeared, Byrd was the only one to say "Nay."

The voice vote let lawmakers sidestep the roll call that usually accompanies major legislation. That underscored the complicated political calculus presented by the measure, which was dominated by popular funds for U.S. forces but also sparked questions about Bush's postwar Iraq policies and record budget deficits at home.

Why didn't the rest of the Senate show up? If Senator Byrd REALLY objected, why didn't he call for a quorum? It's time for honest government ... it's time for Libertarians.

Read before you vote

The investigation of strip club owner Michael Galardi and numerous politicians appears to be the first time federal authorities have used the Patriot Act in a public corruption probe.

Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Congress intended the Patriot Act to help federal authorities root out threats from terrorists and spies after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"The law was intended for activities related to terrorism and not to naked women," said Reid, who as minority whip is the second most powerful Democrat in the Senate.

Perhaps if he'd read it before he voted on it, this wouldn't have happened!

Safe environment for our children?

Surveillance video from Stratford High School in Goose Creek shows 14 officers--some with guns drawn--ordering students to lie on the ground as police searched for marijuana. Students who didn't comply with the orders quickly enough were reportedly handcuffed.

Police didn't find any criminals in the armed sweep. There is SO much wrong with this story, I hardly know where to begin! Unreasonable search, endangering school age children and of course, it should be noted that nobody raided Rush Limbaugh's home. Want drugs out of schools? Then decriminalize them.
